What We’re Doing on Inauguration Weekend
Hi! So yeah, the inauguration’s happening soon. Right now your trusty co-leaders are sitting at the Hub, occasionally peeking at the horrific news while the Jeff Sessions hearing confirmations are taking place. It’s real. It’s really real. (As Felicia likes to say, this IS the darkest timeline). We aren’t living in a fantasy world though, so we decided that we’re going to do some things as Inclusion Geeks, and we hope you can join us. We’re With Her
When we first launched Inclusion Geeks, we made a conscious decision to not bring politics into the community. Everyone has a right to their own opinion and we felt it wasn’t right to state ours publicly. We’ve held to this, despite the historical nature of a woman getting closest to the United States presidency in history, and despite the outrageously misogynistic character of her opposition. However, we can no longer stand by and refrain from comment.

Ask the Community: What Makes a Great Boss?
We asked our community their thoughts on a variety of topics. Here’s the next in our series! What makes a great boss? For me, it’s someone who pushes me toward my edge but doesn’t let me fall over. Jen B. I try to embody the leadership qualities of good bosses I’ve had in the past, and so whenever my team members complimented my management style it was around three things: openness, clear communications and expectations, and trust. I value being trusted to the do the work (please don’t micromanage me!).

What are some of the best phrases and expressions you’ve come across for asserting yourself or challenging an idea gracefully? “What’s the goal we’re trying to solve?” :Let’s think about the user.” -Tara T. I will usually challenge someone by saying, “I see your point, although from my perspective….” It acknowledges that you understand what that person said and that you hear them, but also acknowledges that you are bringing a different perspective to the table.

Who We Donate to and Why
As many of you know, we have historically donated a portion of our proceeds to a nonprofit dedicated to promoting STEM education for girls. In previous years we’ve solely supported the amazing Science Club for Girls, but this year we decided to expand our giving to include a few other fabulous nonprofits doing great work in this space.
